This Group is organised around three sets of “courses”, meeting twice a month for six sessions per term, in the autumn, winter and spring. We have a month off at both Christmas and Easter, and about three months in the summer.
For many years, our group has met in the leader’s home at Capel-le-Ferne to enjoy the six Tuesday morning meetings, that each last around two hours.
In a relaxed atmosphere, a meeting starts with refreshments and quality fellowship before discussing in depth one or two traditional poems not related to a theme, but haphazardly with a variety in subject and style. These are traditional works covering a wide spread of periods, ranging from Old English to modern-day.
No previous knowledge or understanding of poetry is required, although if you can contribute ‘some appreciation of poetry’ — then this will be welcomed. Our only baselines are: in-group confidentiality, and discussions devoid of acrimony.
We are a friendly group sharing much humour and learning from each other, who welcome new members. Whatever your level of interest, why not go ahead and register either at coffee mornings or by emailing shepwaygroups@gmail.com? Alternatively, contact Ray Solly via the “Group leader” link above to try a taster session.
